On Friday evenings,
Erev Shabbat, our Kabbalat
Shabbat (welcoming Shabbat) services are in the round in the chavurah-style. Kabbalat Shabbat at
OZ tends to be more informal than Saturday morning services. Led by our Cantor, Rabbi Jan Salzman, these
services include robust singing by
all, storytelling, and a real sense of entering into the serenity of
Shabbat. All of our Kabbalat Shabbat
services are family friendly and begin at 6 PM.
Once a month from
September through May there is a special
Kabbalat Shabbat Folk Service at OZ. These services often
include the musical leadership of Robert
Resnik, who joins Rabbi Jan and Rabbi
Joshua. In addition to beautiful and joyous singing, our Folk
Services include musical instruments such
as guitars, drums and recorders as well. Our Folk Services are especially family
friendly and are a great hit with babies, toddlers, children of all ages, and
adults. After services conclude the entire community is welcome to join us for
a potluck vegetarian dinner at the OZ House around the corner from the synagogue
on North St. Please check the OZ online calendar to see which weeks Folk
Services are scheduled for this year.
