Hebrew School students in kitot gimmel through vav (grades 3 through 6) participate in Shiurei Bechirah (Elective Classes) for part of the Wednesday afternoon Hebrew School sessions for several weeks during each semester. Electives vary each semester but in recent semesters have included such offerings as: klezmer band, cooking, gardening, Yoga, art, photography, theatre, creative writing, yearbook, mah jongg – all with Jewish themes. During the 2009-10/5770 Hebrew School year, Shiurei Bechirah are scheduled for the following dates:
Fall electives: 11/11, 11/18, 12/2 and 12/9
Spring electives: 3/3, 3/10, 3/17 and 3/24
Parents of Hebrew School students will receive sign-up forms and elective descriptions approximately one to two weeks prior to the start of each elective. This affords families the opportunity to review the choices before the students themselves sign up for the elective of their choice during Hebrew School.
Some electives may be open to interested adults in the OZ community with permission of the instructor.
