June 2, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Our next semi-annual Congregational Meeting will be held at 9:00 am on Sunday, June 2. Please note that minyan will be at 8:30 am that morning.
Following is the agenda:
9:00 am – Security discussion and active shooter training by Burlington Police Officers. This will start promptly at 9:00. Please arrive no later than 8:45 to get your bagel and coffee.
10:30 am – Budget review, discussion and vote
11:15 am – Other important news including personnel issues–Cantor Steve Zeidenberg and Executive Director recruitment
11:30 am – Question and answer session
This meeting will be somewhat different than our usual meetings, because of what is, sadly, going on in the world and our security needs. We plan to begin, at 9:00 am sharp, with a presentation by Burlington Police Officers James Trieb and Jon Murad. It will include security/active shooter training, utilizing both a lecture and a scenario.
We know that this is a difficult issue for all of us, and that there are many different points of view at OZ about how we should proceed. We have begun locking our doors during Shabbat services and having security present. We know that some of you are grateful for this, and are afraid to come to synagogue on Shabbat without security. However, to others, this feels very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. There is also the issue of cost.
This is an extremely important issue, which is why we are devoting 1.5 hours at the Congregational Meeting to this, including the police presentation. We hope that many of you will come to this, and we also know that some folks are uncomfortable discussing this. If you choose not to attend this session, please arrive no later than 10:30 for the budget review, discussion and vote. Please also feel free to privately discuss this matter with me, or anyone else with whom you are comfortable.
