——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
We have decided to change the date and form of this year’s Interfaith Seder.
Our event will now be held on Friday, June 21st at 6pm, and will be an Interfaith Celebration of Shabbat (Jewish Sabbath) – to be held at Ohavi Zedek Synagogue.
We deeply regret that we did not initially consult the Muslim calendar when we planned our Interfaith Seder, and seeing that it conflicts with Ramadan, we’ve decided it’s important to change the date. We sincerely apologize for our oversight.
Our celebration will continue to honor stories of refuge and freedom within our community. However, this year we’ll be hosting our Interfaith event on June 21, 2019 in honor of World Refugee Day, run by the UN Refugee Agency and celebrated this year on June 20, 2019.
June 21 is also designated as “Refugee Shabbat” by HIAS, a lead organization supporting immigrants and immigration.
We live in increasing xenophobic times, and we want to bring an interfaith community together to help us all move through this difficult time in our history. We need each other. This event is about raising global awareness and responsibility for refugees. We also welcome others in our community to celebrate Shabbat with us and share our Shabbat meal (note: the meal will be vegetarian, in keeping with Jewish dietary laws).
