Across the Abyss: How a Former Anti-Semite and a Former Jewish Extremist are Changing the Muslim-Jewish Relationship
A. Pearly and Edith C. Feen Lecture by Yossi Klein Halevi and Imam Abdullah Antepli
While growing up in Turkey, Abdullah Antepli saw Jews as evil and read the children’s version of the classic anti-Semitic work, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. While growing up in Brooklyn, Yossi Klein Halevi, the son of a Holocaust survivor, was attracted to the militant politics of the Jewish far-right. Today, Abdullah heads Muslim Affairs at Duke University, while Yossi is a senior fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, Israel’s leading center for religious pluralism. Together they run a revolutionary program, the Muslim Leadership Initiative, that is changing the way Muslims and Jews understand and relate to each other.
