SUMMARY:ChaiLights 2023-24 - Climate Fresk Hosted by Myriam Darmoni Charbit
DESCRIPTION:A maximum of 12 people may participate in this session. Register Early: \nRegister Now! \nThe Climate Fresk is a global climate education project; and we are happy to have one of its leaders\, Myriam Darmoni Charbit\, host this session.  Myriam and her husband Denis have been at OZ in the past several months\, while visiting Vermont from Israel. One of Myriam’s goals is to engage faith communities into climate awareness and climate action. \nOur program at OZ will be a 2 hour and 45 minute workshop for adults (16 and up) taking place from 9:00 to 11:45 am.  (Bagels and coffee provided!) \n\n\n\nThe Fresk (which translates to ‘fresco’ or ‘mural’) is a science-based (IPCC) workshop with 42 cards (adults) that nurtures collaboration\, collective intelligence and active learning. \n\n\n\nUp to twelve participants will play together around a table with one facilitator (that can facilitate up to 2 tables).  At first\, the participants arrange the cards according to Causes and Consequences (5 sets of cards for adults and 3 for youth).  During the second part of the workshop they decorate their “fresk” for anchoring the new knowledge and reflect on their feelings; finally they brainstorm on which actions they want to take on a personal and collective level\, following what they have learned. \n\n\nIt is a powerful way to raise awareness about the Climate crisis and to  engage the participants to take action while reducing climate anxiety and generating optimism in collective action. \n\n\n\nHere is an article about the Climate fresk published in the New York Times in August. \n\n\nIf some participants enjoy the workshop Myriam hopes to train them to become facilitators and use it with larger circles of participants. \n\n\nFor example\, there is a vibrant community of “Freskers” in Boston and hundreds of students at Harvard University have already participated. Myriam is very motivated to spread this powerful educational tool in Vermont\, and especially at OZ. Attahed is a one pager with more information. \n\n\n\nNote the following are future opportunities: \n\nDana would be delighted to talk with community members about Environmental values in Judaism\, Islam and Christianity. Basically\, the idea is that we need to adapt the climate “narrative” to various groups and that faith groups will listen more carefully if the “climate story” is not only science based but also refers to religious values/norms such as the idea of stewardship.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n And\, there is a 2-hour teen version of this project that a facilitator could lead for our Nadav teens!\n\nAbout ChaiLights\nThis fall\, OZ will be serving Sunday morning bagels\, coffee and with fun\, social experiences for adults!  \nBeginning September 10th\, weekly ChaiLights gatherings will give you a chance to learn\, taste and connect. \nEach gathering will start off with food and open conversation\, followed by a unique experience that will engage and inspire\, let us create and improve the world. \nThis project’s vibe is fun\, social and low-pressure\, with activities lead by community volunteers. Its a great fit for Jews\, Jewish-adjacent and those who are just curious. \nRegister Now! \nProgram details: \n\n Date / Time ChaiLights Experience Community Member Hosts Sunday September 10 10:00 am - 11:30 am OZ Open House Jeff Potash\, Aaron Goldberg\, Lynda Siegel\,  Sunday October 15 9:15 am - 11:00 am Jewish Perspectives on Sex Bruce Chalmer\, Ph.D.and Judy Alexander\, MAED Sunday October 22 9:15 am - 11:00 am Cooking in the Kitchen - Kosher caterer by trade\, Valerie Philmus will lead this group for a delicious project the kitchen.   (Rabbi Aaron is Valerie's husband!) SUMMARY:Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for two sessions of meditation practice and mindful Torah study\, Sunday Oct 22 and Oct 29. \n\n\n\n\n\nIt may feel challenging for us to turn to Torah and prayer as we experience such turbulent emotions\, but it’s the very presence of those emotions that make community and the three pillars of the world – Torah\, Avodah (prayerful service)\, and acts of loving-kindness – more important than ever. We hope you will join us in this shared experience to regulate our nervous system\, uplift our resilience\, and tend to our breaking heart. \n\n\n  \n\n\nJudy Danzig \n\n\nLindsay Foreman \n\n\nJustin Reidy \n\n\n\n\nRegister Here \n  \nAnd\, click here to learn about our December 1-3 Mindfulness & Meditation Weekend.
