SUMMARY:Rosh Hashanah Day 1
DESCRIPTION:Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) invites us to begin the year with gratitude\, reflection\, and hope. Join our community for the first morning of this sacred holiday as we pray\, sing\, hear the Torah read\, and reflect on the possibilities of the year ahead. \nThe service includes Shacharit (the traditional morning prayer service)\, Torah reading\, and Musaf (an additional prayer service observed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays). Because the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat this year\, the shofar (an ancient instrument\, traditionally made from a ram’s horn) will not besounded today. Instead\, we invite you to return for Rosh Hashanah Day 2\, when we’ll hear the shofar’s stirring call together. \n \nChildren & Families\nChildren are always welcome in our sanctuary. Families with young children are warmly invited to participate in our Rosh Hashanah Family Experience – Tots (Ages 0-5) and Rosh Hashanah Family Service – Kids (Ages 6-12)\, offered alongside the main service. \nSnacks will be available for children throughout the morning. \nNeed a quieter place to worship or take a break? You’re welcome to use our Samuelson-Saiger Sanctuary\, where the service is livestreamed\, or visit our Library Sensory & Quiet Room. \nHow to Attend:\nHigh Holiday services are open to everyone. Services are free for Ohavi Zedek members\, young adults under 30\, and children. Tickets are required for other adult guests. Please register in advance. SUMMARY:Rosh Hashanah Day 1 Family Experience – Tots (Ages 0–5)
DESCRIPTION:Share the joy and wonder of Rosh Hashanah with your little one in a warm\, interactive service created especially for young children and the grown-ups who love them. Through music\, movement\, storytelling\, simple prayers\, and hands-on experiences\, families will explore the traditions of the Jewish New Year in ways that are engaging\, meaningful\, and fun. \n \nAt Ohavi Zedek\, we believe children belong at the heart of Jewish life. Little voices\, curious questions\, wiggly bodies\, and joyful laughter are all part of the experience. Whether it’s your family’s first High Holiday or a cherished annual tradition\, you’ll find a welcoming community where everyone can celebrate together. \nThis year’s Family Experience will be led by Gigi Weisman. These services will be filled with music\, stories and movement while holding the intentions of the holiday. We welcome all children to participate at the rate and pace that is just right for them. Gigi is a children’s entertainer\, social coach and educational consultant. She also leads the Ohavi Zedek Singing Circles. \nWhat to Expect\nJoyful music and singing\nInteractive storytelling\nAge-appropriate prayers and blessings\nMovement and hands-on participation\nA relaxed\, welcoming environment for young families \nThe Rosh Hashanah Family Services are free for all families. This interactive family service invites elementary-age children and the grown-ups who love them to experience the Jewish New Year through music\, storytelling\, prayer\, discussion\, and hands-on activities that bring the themes of the holiday to life. \n \nTogether we’ll explore ideas like kindness\, gratitude\, forgiveness\, and new beginnings in ways that are engaging for children while creating meaningful moments for the whole family. \nAt Ohavi Zedek\, we believe children belong at the heart of Jewish life. Questions\, conversation\, laughter\, and participation are all part of the experience. Following the Family Experience\, everyone will join the congregation in the Main Sanctuary for a shared portion of the High Holiday service\, bringing our entire community together. \nThis year’s Family Service will be led by award-winning Jewish children’s musician Joanie Leeds\, bringing her joyful music\, energy\, and creativity to our Rosh Hashanah celebration. Joanie will engage kids and their grown-ups in an interactive experience that brings the themes and traditions of the Jewish New Year to life. \nWhat to Expect\nMusic and singing\nInteractive storytelling and discussion\nAge-appropriate prayers and blessings\nHands-on activities and participation\nTime together with the larger congregation \nThe Rosh Hashanah Family Experience is free for all families.
