SUMMARY:Shemini Atzeret
DESCRIPTION:After the joy of Sukkot\, Shemini Atzeret offers a quieter invitation. While it follows the week of Sukkot\, it is a distinct holiday—one that encourages us to linger a little longer in sacred community before returning to everyday life. \nJewish tradition imagines this final festival day as an opportunity to remain together just a little longer\, savoring the holiness of the season through prayer\, reflection\, gratitude\, and hope. \nWhether you’ve been with us throughout the High Holy Days or are joining us for the first time\, we invite you to share this beautiful and often overlooked holiday. \nWhat Makes This Service Special \nA Time to Linger\nShemini Atzeret marks the conclusion of the Sukkot festival while creating space for quiet reflection after weeks of celebration. It reminds us that some of life’s most meaningful moments are worth extending just a little longer. \nFestival Worship\nJoin us for joyful festival prayer\, music\, Torah reading\, and community as we celebrate this final day before the exuberance of Simchat Torah. \nLooking Ahead\nAs the seasons change\, Shemini Atzeret invites us to look toward the months ahead with gratitude\, hope\, and renewed purpose. \nFirst time at Ohavi Zedek? Visit our What to Expect page to learn about our traditions\, children and families\, accessibility\, parking\, security\, and other helpful information before your visit.

SUMMARY:Erev Simchat Torah
DESCRIPTION:As the High Holiday season draws to a close\, we gather for one of Judaism’s most joyful celebrations. Simchat Torah—“Rejoicing with the Torah”—marks the completion of our annual cycle of Torah readings and the immediate beginning of a new one. \nThe heart of the evening are the hakafot—seven joyful processions with the Torah scrolls. Rather than remaining seated\, the congregation gets up to sing\, dance\, circle the sanctuary\, and celebrate together. Everyone is invited to participate\, whether you dance every hakafah or simply clap and sing along. \nThis year\, the celebration will be powered by an 11-piece live band led by Marty Fogel\, bringing even more energy to the singing and dancing throughout the evening. \nWhether Simchat Torah is a beloved annual tradition or completely new to you\, this is one of the easiest nights of the year to simply jump in and be part of the joy. \nEveryone is welcome. Everyone belongs.
