DESCRIPTION:Discover the joy of Jewish music\, movement\, and community. \nIsraeli dance is one vibrant expression of the broader tradition of Jewish folk dance. It brings people together through lively music\, shared movement\, and a welcoming community. It is easy to start and difficult to stop! Along the way\, you’ll enjoy an activity that’s great for both your body and your brain. \nWhether you’ve danced for years or are taking your very first steps\, you’ll find a warm\, encouraging community ready to welcome you. \nNo partner or previous experience is needed. New dancers are encouraged to arrive at the beginning of the session\, when we’ll introduce the basic steps before gradually building to more advanced dances throughout the evening. \nJoin hosts Mitch\, Lani\, and Miriam and a friendly group of dancers who gather twice each month in person and weekly on Zoom. \nFree to attend. Optional $5 donation appreciated. \nInterested but can’t make this session? DESCRIPTION:A welcoming introduction to Shabbat services \nSaturdays • 9:30–10:30 a.m.\nAugust 1\, 8\, 15\, 22 & 29\nSamuelson-Saiger Sanctuary \n  \nClick Here to Register \n\nWhy does the Shabbat service last as long as it does?\nWhy do we pray in Hebrew?\nWhen do we stand\, sit\, bow\, or bend our knees?\nHow can Shabbat services become more meaningful for me? \nIf you’ve ever wondered about any of these questions (or have a few of your own!)\, join Rabbi Carol Harris-Shapiro for a welcoming five-week exploration of the Shabbat morning service. \nEach session includes a little singing\, a little learning\, a little nosh\, and a lot of conversation. Together we’ll explore how the Shabbat service developed\, what gives it meaning\, and how it can become a richer spiritual experience. Along the way\, you’ll get to know others who are asking many of the same questions. \nEach session is self-contained\, so come to one or come to all. The class ends in time to join the congregation for the Torah service\, hear Rabbi Ariel’s weekly d’var Torah\, and stay afterward for our community Kiddush lunch. With the High Holidays just around the corner\, it’s also a wonderful way to become more comfortable with Jewish worship before the holidays arrive. \nRabbi Carol Harris-Shapiro\, an Ohavi Zedek member who spends summers in Vermont with her husband Jon\, is a retired rabbi\, author\, educator\, and former professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies at Gratz College. She brings decades of experience helping people explore Jewish life and worship. \nNo prior knowledge is needed—just curiosity. This program is offered at no cost; optional donations are appreciated.
