DESCRIPTION:Rosh Hashanah Day 2 continues our journey into the Jewish New Year\, inviting us to reflect on where we’ve been\, who we hope to become\, and the choices that shape the year ahead. Join our community for a meaningful morning of prayer\, Torah\, and the powerful call of the shofar—an ancient instrument\, traditionally made from a ram’s horn\, whose stirring blasts have inspired generations of Jews to awaken their hearts\, embrace renewal\, and begin the new year with purpose. \n \nThe service includes Shacharit (the traditional morning prayer service)\, Torah reading\, Musaf (an additional prayer service observed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays)\, and the sounding of the shofar. Because the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat this year\, the shofar will be sounded on the second day of the holiday\, making this service a particularly meaningful opportunity to experience one of Judaism’s most cherished High Holy Day traditions. \nMultiple congregants will blow shofar during the service. \nChildren & Families\nFamilies with young children are warmly invited to our Rosh Hashanah Day 2 Family Experience – Tots (Ages 0-5) and Rosh Hashanah Day 2 Family Service – Kids (Ages 6-12). \nSnacks will be available for children throughout the morning. \nAfter morning services\, we invite everyone to continue the holiday at Rosh Hashanah by the Lake\, where our community gathers at the Echo Center on Burlington’s waterfront for a joyful\, musical family-oriented program\,\, followed by Tashlikh—a meaningful tradition in which we symbolically cast away the burdens of the past year as we begin the new one with hope. \nNeed a quieter place to worship or take a break? You’re welcome to use our Samuelson-Saiger Sanctuary\, where the service is livestreamed\, or visit our Library Sensory & Quiet Room. \nHow to Attend:\nHigh Holiday services are open to everyone. Questions\, conversation\, laughter\, and participation are all part of the experience. DESCRIPTION:Tashlich (pronounced tash-LEEKH\, meaning “you shall cast”) is a meaningful Rosh Hashanah tradition that invites us to reflect on the year behind us and symbolically let go of the regrets\, mistakes\, and burdens we’d rather not carry into the year ahead. \n \nFollowing Rosh Hashanah by the Lake\, we’ll walk together to Burlington’s waterfront for this simple yet powerful ritual. Traditionally\, people cast breadcrumbs into flowing water. To help protect Lake Champlain and its wildlife\, Ohavi Zedek uses small pebbles (provided) as an environmentally friendly way to honor this beautiful tradition. \nWhether you’ve participated in Tashlich before or this is your first experience\, we’ll explain the tradition as we go.
