DESCRIPTION:Ohavi Zedek offers regular minyan services to meet the worship needs of our community and especially to aid those members of our community who are reciting Kaddish in memory of a recently deceased loved one or on a Yahrzeit. Services are held Sunday-Thursday evenings at 7:00 on Zoom. Ohavi Zedek’s minyan is traditional and egalitarian. Mincha and Maariv are recited at evening services when the services begin before dark\, only Ma’ariv is recited once we reach the point in the year when services start after dark. Join our community for a meaningful morning of prayer\, Torah\, and the powerful call of the shofar—an ancient instrument\, traditionally made from a ram’s horn\, whose stirring blasts have inspired generations of Jews to awaken their hearts\, embrace renewal\, and begin the new year with purpose. \nThe service includes Shacharit (the traditional morning prayer service)\, Torah reading\, Musaf (an additional prayer service observed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays)\, and the sounding of the shofar. Because the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat this year\, the shofar will be sounded on the second day of the holiday\, making this service a particularly meaningful opportunity to experience one of Judaism’s most cherished High Holy Day traditions. \nMultiple congregants will blow shofar during the service. \nChildren & Families\nFamilies with young children are warmly invited to our Rosh Hashanah Day 2 Family Service – Tots (Ages 0-6) and Rosh Hashanah Day 2 Family Service – Kids (Ages 5-12). \nSnacks will be available for children throughout the morning. \nAfter morning services\, we invite everyone to continue the holiday at Rosh Hashanah by the Lake\, where our community gathers at the Echo Center on Burlington’s waterfront for a joyful\, musical family-oriented program\,\, followed by Tashlikh—a meaningful tradition in which we symbolically cast away the burdens of the past year as we begin the new one with hope. \nHow to Attend: High Holiday services are open to everyone. Traditionally\, people cast breadcrumbs into flowing water. To help protect Lake Champlain and its wildlife\, Ohavi Zedek uses small pebbles (provided) as an environmentally friendly way to honor this beautiful tradition. \nWhether you’ve participated in Tashlikh before or this is your first experience\, we’ll explain the tradition as we go. DESCRIPTION:Shabbat Shuvah (the “Sabbath of Return”) falls between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur\, offering a unique opportunity to pause\, reflect\, and prepare our hearts for the holiest day of the Jewish year. \nJoin our community for a meaningful Friday evening of prayer\, music\, and reflection as we continue the spiritual journey that began on Rosh Hashanah. Together we’ll explore themes of teshuvah (return and renewal)\, forgiveness\, gratitude\, and the possibilities that emerge when we make space for personal growth. \nThe morning service will also include a Shabbat Shuvah sermon from Rabbi Ariel\, offering insight and inspiration as we prepare for Yom Kippur. \nWhether you’ve been observing the High Holy Days for years or are joining us for the first time\, you’ll find a warm and welcoming community as we prepare together for Yom Kippur. \nHow to Attend: High Holiday services are open to everyone. Services are free for Ohavi Zedek members\, young adults under 30\, and children. Tickets are required for other adult guests.
