DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, we often host a Kiddush – a lunch donated by synagogue members or b mitzvah families\, where all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a video feed of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s). Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village! \nTorah Study typically takes place at 8:30 am before services. DESCRIPTION:The second annual Hineni* retreat is a day-and-a-half of mindfulness meditation for Jewish\, Jewish-adjacent\, and curious individuals from all backgrounds. It is open and appropriate for experienced and new meditators alike. \nTaught by Rabbi Seth Castleman\, the retreat is offered by Ohavi Zedek Synagogue and will be held at the Burlington Friends Meeting House. \nThe retreat will have interspersed periods of silence\, along with sitting meditation\, walking meditation\, guided meditation\, eating meditation\, instructions\, teachings\, and Q&A. Friday dinner and Saturday lunch will be provided. \nThe retreat runs between Friday January 10 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm and Saturday January 11 from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm \nJoin the Waitlist \n* Hineni means “Here I am!” in Hebrew\, a spiritual call of presence. \n\n“Rabbi Seth is a powerful and engaging storyteller and mindfulness teacher\, who beautifully weaves together ancient Jewish and Buddhist practices. His presence emanates compassion; and he has an immense capacity to hold complexity in a complicated time in Jewish history.”\n– Lindsay Foreman\, OZ Congregant \n\nRabbi Seth Castleman is a teacher\, writer\, and storyteller with over 25 years of experience teaching mindfulness and spiritual practice in houses of worship\, meditation centers\, prisons\, and universities. \nCastleman is trained in both the Jewish and Buddhist traditions. After 20 years of meditation practice and two years of silent retreat as a lay-person in the US\, India\, and Nepal and as a monk in Burma\, Seth was trained as a teacher by Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre\, CA. He was authorized as a meditation/dharma teacher in 2008. Following eight years of rabbinical studies in the US and Israel\, Castleman was ordained in 2011 as a rabbi by one Orthodox\, one Conservative\, and one Reform rabbi. \nIn addition to teaching meditation and spiritual practice\, Castleman is the Founding Director of Exodus Project\, an inter-faith organization in California serving 1\,000 women and men returning from incarceration annually. \nCastleman has published in two dozen newspapers\, periodicals\, and anthologies on the intersection of contemplative practice and social justice and the transformational power of brokenness. As a storyteller\, Seth has performed in theaters\, on radio and television\, and at countless kitchen tables. SUMMARY:Soul Travel: Jewish Ways into Dream Interpretation with Rabbi Aaron
DESCRIPTION:Every night our souls go on a journey through the spirit world. We learn from the Talmud that dreams are 1/60th of prophecy and that a dream that has not been interpreted is like a letter that has not been read. Together we will discover the wealth of Jewish teachings on dreams\, dream interpretation\, and dream rituals.  \nAs part of the class each person will keep a personal dream journal (Sefer Chalomot). We are meeting in the month of Kislev\, which according to kabbalah is a time to turn within and pay attention to the deeper messages of our dreams. Kislev is also when we read from the Torah about Jacob’s Ladder and Josef the dreamer and dream interpreter. \nNo prior knowledge of Judaism is required nor do you need to be Jewish. DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, we often host a Kiddush – a lunch donated by synagogue members or b mitzvah families\, where all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a video feed of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s). Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village! \nTorah Study typically takes place at 8:30 am before services. DESCRIPTION:Ohavi Zedek offers regular minyan services to meet the worship needs of our community and especially to aid those members of our community who are reciting Kaddish in memory of a recently deceased loved one or on a Yahrzeit. Services are held Sunday-Thursday evenings at 7:00 on Zoom. Ohavi Zedek’s minyan is traditional and egalitarian.
