SUMMARY:Shabbat Morning Services
DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, we often host a Kiddush – a lunch donated by synagogue members or b mitzvah families\, where all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a livestream of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s).  Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village!

DESCRIPTION:Yoga in the yurt is a series of three Sunday morning gatherings that combine yoga and Jewish learning. It’s a great way to connect your body\, mind\, and soul as we prepare to celebrate Rosh Hashanah\, the Jewish New Year.\n \nDates include Sundays August 20\, 27 and September 10th (The 10th is OZ’s open house too!). \nClass starts with mindfulness breathing exercises\, slow flow yoga\, and concludes with Peggy leading an 30-minute chevrutah (partner) discussion of a Jewish text. \n\nThis is a multi-level yoga class perfect for beginners and experienced yogis.\nPlease wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle\, a yoga mat (and a yoga block if you have one).\nNo Hebrew or background knowledge is required.\nWe’ll meet in the yurt beyond the main building.\n\nLike any good Jewish yoga class\, bagels will be provided after class. \nThere will be a standard exercise waiver you will be required to sign to participate in the yoga class. \nSpace is limited to twelve per session.  We encourage attendance of the whole series\, but you are welcome to sign up for individual sessions that fit your schedule. \nCost is free\, with optional donation to help support OZ programming. \nRegister Here \nYoga in the yurt will be led by community member Peggy Price\, RYT-200\, and creator of Yoga Body\, Jewish Mind. \n \n  \nJewish Yoga Resources: \n\nIs Yoga Kosher?

DESCRIPTION:A two-part High Holy Day preparation learning series taking place on Sunday August 13 and Sunday August 27th at 2:30-4pm in OZ’s Yurt.  The program is co-lead by Rabbi Aaron Philmus\, Lindsay Foreman and Justin Reidy. \nRegister Here \n  \nProgram Details \nElul\, the Hebrew month prior to the High Holy Days\, begins at sundown on August 17. It is a time of preparation for the Days of Awe\, the ten-day period from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur.   \nElul is traditionally marked by a period of self-reflection and study in anticipation of the spiritual experience of the High Holidays. To support that preparation\, our program will explore the themes of “Waking Up\, Being Present\, and Finding Home“\, and are inspired by the profound teachings of Rabbi Alan Lew’s “This is Real and You Are Completely Unprepared\,” a book that challenges and guides us towards a deeper understanding of our spiritual selves. \nIn our time together\, we will be creating a dynamic blend of traditional learning and mindfulness practices\, drawing on chanting\, meditation\, and the age-old wisdom of our texts. Our journey will start and end with the powerful chant “Hineini”* – a heartfelt declaration of our readiness to open ourselves to divine communication and introspection. \nOur learning will be driven by shared dialogue through “chavruta” – a time-honored approach to learning that emphasizes conversation and the free exchange of ideas. We will delve into thought-provoking questions that seek to provide context and broaden our perspectives. \nThe session will culminate with a full group discussion\, allowing us to share our insights\, experiences\, and newfound understandings. This will be followed by a meditative session designed to quieten the mind\, align our spirit\, and anchor our learnings. \nWe believe these learning events are not just an opportunity for intellectual and spiritual growth\, but also a chance to deepen the ties that bind our community together. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey\, we encourage you to come\, participate\, and find a sense of home and belonging in our shared exploration. \nWe look forward to seeing you as we explore\, learn\, reflect\, and experience the profoundness of being truly present\, awake\, and at home in our spiritual selves. \n* “Hineini”\, Hebrew for “here I am”\, is a phrase that’s frequently associated with direct spiritual encounters with the Divine\, most notably Moses’s response to HaShem at the burning bush.

DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, the kitchen team will host a light Kiddush meal – all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a livestream of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s).  Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village!

DESCRIPTION:Reset the year together in a way that combines ancient tradition and a classical Vermont experience – a dip in Lake Champlain.  Join our clergy for a ritual immersion at the Oakledge Park Cove near the upper Pavilion. \nPlease bring a swim suit\, a towel\, water shoes (recommended) and clothes to change into. \nYou may park in the upper pavilion lot (the southern-most lot at Oakledge Park) and walk down the paved walkway (west) to the lake cove.  Parking is paid in the lot\, free for state park pass holders\, or free on Austin Drive (with a short walk in to the park on the bike path). \nRabbi Aaron will provide a brief discussion to our group about mikveh ritual at the gathering. \nImmersion is customarily done for many milestones in Jewish tradition\, including before the High Holy Days. \nLearn More: What is a Mikveh? at MyJewishJearning.com.
