DESCRIPTION:We’ll be gathering on Saturday\, November 12th at 5 pm at Shelburne Farms (!!)– up at the fire circle on the hill behind the farm barns (the beautiful barns where your kids like to pat bunnies and chase chickens.) I’ll be leading a short\, interactive\, singing-heavy tot friendly havdallah service\, followed by a potluck with a bonfire + (kosher!) smores party. The service will be friendly and welcoming to tots from babies to bigger kids. \n  \nPlease bring: LAYERS of clothing to stay warm! Camp chairs or blankets to sit on! A potluck dish or two to share! A singing voice! A spirit of adventure! A love of the outdoors and being Jewish or Jew-ish or you-ish! \n  \nWe will share a potluck + smores making after we do the Havdalah service—bring lots\, eat lots–  it will be great. We’ll bring some paper ware\, but even better if you bring your own utensils and bowls/ plates if possible. \n  \nYou can drive all the way in and park at the Farm Barn and then walk up the short steep hill to the fire circle. DESCRIPTION:OZ member Grace Oedel\, Executive Director of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont\, will lead a discussion exploring the idea of Judaism as an agricultural religion\, deeply connected to place\, to food\, and to table fellowship through food.  Starting with short text study\, Grace will lead conversation around how a Torah-based understanding of Judaism as intimately connected to land\, agriculture\, and food will deepen and strengthen our daily experience of our Judaism. \nProgram Background: \nThis fall\, OZ will be serving bagels\, coffee and tea\, with fun/social group experiences for adults! \nBeginning September 11th\, ten weekly ChaiLights gatherings will give you a chance to learn a little\, taste a little\, share a little\, maybe even schvitz (sweat!) a little while connecting with others. \nEach gathering will start off with food and open conversation\, followed by a unique experience that will engage and inspire\, let us create and improve the world. This project’s vibe is fun\, social and low-pressure\, with activities lead by community volunteers. It was time for a change\, and Wayne is eminently qualified to step in and continue to\nseek out speakers and presentations that reflect our Jewish and community interests.\nWayne\, who holds a law degree and a Master’s in City Planning\, came to Vermont in 1988 with\nhis family to accept the position of Director of Local and Regional Planning Assistance in the VT\nDept. of Housing and Community Affairs. He subsequently founded a citizen planners journal\,\nwhich gained nationwide readership\, and was the recipient of many awards and honors in the\nplanning field. Attuned to social justice\, both he and his wife\, Lila Shapero\, continue to have an\nactive voice in neighborhood and community issues\, and beyond. Wayne himself was a Lunch &\nLearn presenter in 2008 (“Across America on Route 50: Conversations with Citizens and \nPlanners on the State of Our Cities & Towns”) and again in 2019 (“How the 1903 Kishinev\nPogrom Shocked the World”). DESCRIPTION:Come learn to play Mah Jongg! This series of 5 classes will enable you to become a proud Mah Jongg player!  Choose from either the daytime or evening series. \n\nWednesday Daytime Classes: 1-3:00 PM Nov. 2\, 9\, 16\, (no class on 11/23) 30\, and Dec. 7\nThursday Evening classes: 5-7 PM;   Nov. 3\,10\,17\, (No class on 11/24)\, Dec 1 and 8th\n\nSuggested donation for this series is $50 for OZ members and $100 for others in the community.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds.  Classes will meet in person in the OZ library.  Maximum of 8 participants. SUMMARY:Minyan
DESCRIPTION:Ohavi Zedek offers regular minyan services to meet the worship needs of our community and especially to aid those members of our community who are reciting Kaddish in memory of a recently deceased loved one or on a Yahrzeit. Services are held Sunday-Thursday evenings at 7:00. Ohavi Zedek’s minyan is traditional and egalitarian. Mincha and Maariv are recited at evening services when the services begin before dark\, only Ma’ariv is recited once we reach the point in the year when services start after dark.\nIf you are planning to attend a service to recite Kaddish please contact Cantor Steve to let us know so we can make sure there is a minyan present.
