DESCRIPTION:Israeli folkdance is a joyous folk art form that is easy to start and difficult to stop. It draws from many cultures and expresses itself in dances that range in complexity and speed. See this article for more information. \nJoin hosts Adele\, Lani and Mitch and a friendly friendly group of people that gathers periodically on Zoom or in person to enjoy the folkdances of Israel! \nWe mostly dance around a circle so no partner is required. We have a large repertoire of beginner-friendly dances. New dancers are encouraged to come at the beginning of the session to benefit from instruction. DESCRIPTION:Ohavi Zedek offers regular minyan services to meet the worship needs of our community and especially to aid those members of our community who are reciting Kaddish in memory of a recently deceased loved one or on a Yahrzeit. Services are held Sunday-Thursday evenings at 7:00 on Zoom. Ohavi Zedek’s minyan is traditional and egalitarian. Mincha and Maariv are recited at evening services when the services begin before dark\, only Ma’ariv is recited once we reach the point in the year when services start after dark. DESCRIPTION:A fundraiser for humanitarian aid in Israel and Palestine. A partnership between communities\, volunteers bake and sell bread in the community kitchens to benefit these medical relief organizations: \nUnited Hatzalah: first responders in Israel\nPalestine Children’s Relief Fund: medical care for children in Gaza and West Bank \nOur goal is to partner with a diverse groups of interfaith congregations on this project. This date will include Ohavi Zedek and Burlington Friends Meeting\, as well as other invited local congregations. If your house of worship church\, synagogue or mosque is interested in participating\, please contact us. \nBread (challah\, pita\, gluten-free oat) will be baked in the OZ kitchen on August 15th from 12pm – 6pm and available for pick-up in the evening or the following day in Burlington or Richmond. At its heart is the intersection of a genocidal political moment in 20th century history and the author’s own family history. Told from the perspectives of four generations of the author’s family\, spanning pre-war Germany to post-Trump America\, it is both a celebration of Jewish cultural resilience and a warning of democracy’s fragility in the face of the seductive forces of authoritarianism. SUMMARY:Special Folkdance Workshop with visiting teacher Riki Adivi
DESCRIPTION:For one evening only\, renowned folkdance teacher\, Riki Adivi will be visiting Burlington and will present a workshop. \nShe will teach Israeli and international dances over the course of an hour and a half. Most of the dances will be simple and suitable for beginners. \nJoin us in the OZ social hall from 7:30-9:30 PM for some great teaching followed by request dancing. \nBio: Riki Adivi has been teaching folk dance for over 15 years\, having finished the Teacher Training program in 2007. Riki’s classes are open to all and designed to integrate beginners and experienced dancers. Since Covid\, Riki has taught two Israeli dance classes and one international folk dancing class\, and in the summer\, organizes folk dancing at one of the parks north of Toronto\, Canada. This year\, as a result of Riki’s mentor being in an assisted living home\, Riki runs sessions of Seated Dancing in that home and also online on Zoom. Riki is committed to making International Folk Dancing a more popular activity and believes that every person\, regardless of any limitation\, should be able to experience dance.

DESCRIPTION:Every Friday this Summer | 10:00–11:00 AM | Social Hall \nAs part of our commitment to building a more connected and transparent community\, we’re excited to invite you to a new weekly opportunity to gather\, share\, and be heard. \nEvery Friday morning this summer\, join us for an informal Tea & Coffee Hour at OZ. Whether you want to talk about what’s happening at OZ\, share an idea or concern\, or simply enjoy each other’s company\, this is a welcoming space for conversation and community. \nEach week\, a member of the OZ Board and/or our Executive Director will be present to listen\, answer questions\, and hear your thoughts. This is your time to speak up\, connect\, or just enjoy a cup of something warm. \nYou’ll also get a behind-the-scenes peek at our vibrant Friday mornings—with kiddush volunteers bustling in the kitchen and the preschool’s joyful Shabbat Party bringing life and laughter to the building. \nTea\, coffee\, and a light snack will be provided. \nWe hope to see you there! \nThe OZ Board
