DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, we often host a Kiddush – a lunch donated by synagogue members or b mitzvah families\, where all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a livestream of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s).  Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village!

DESCRIPTION:Join volunteers in the kitchen to prepare food for the newly revitalized G’MaCh* freezer! \nSign Up Here \n  \nThe freezer will be chock full of 3 seasonal vegan or vegetarian soups as well as Jeff’s delicious mac & cheese. \nThe freezer is available to anyone in the OZ community: use it to kickstart a meal train\, to grab a meal for a member in need\, to take for yourself when life gets too harried to cook. \nWe need your help to keep the freezer stocked!  We are looking for 3-6 cooks each day\, as well as a leader or co leader for each day.  The cooking groups will meet the first Sunday\, Second Wednesday and Third Friday of each month\, cooking up fresh batches of seasonal soup (with a changing menu every 3 months or so). \nOne we stock the freezer we hope to also focus on feeding others in need beyond OZ’s community. \nDrop ins welcome; OZ membership is not required! \nOur plan is to gather three teams to meet monthly: \n\nFirst Sunday at 9:30 am\nSecond Wednesday at 12:30 pm\nThird Friday at 12:30 pm\n\nSign Up Here \n* GmaCh means acts of loving kindness. Read more about G’MaCh here.

DESCRIPTION:Our journey through the autumn of our lives provides an opportunity for reflection.  In this series we will use writing and reading to consider how we each arrived at this point in time and what shaped us to be the people we are today.  We’ll examine the roads we’ve taken\, where we are now and how we got here.  Each participant will then identify a particular time\, event or aspect of her/his life to be the core of their writing.  We’ll focus on memoir writing\, but each participant can choose the best vehicle for them – poetry\, memoir\, essay\, etc.. If there is interest\, additional sessions will be added. DESCRIPTION:THE ART OF CAREGIVING \n\nCaregiving often calls us to lean into love we didn’t know possible. Tia Walker\, Author \n\nTHE PROGRAM: \n  \nAre you a caregiver for someone you love? A partner\, family member\, friend?  \n  \nDo you anticipate being called to a caregiving role sometime in the near or distant future?  \n  \nTogether we will learn from a panel of three health professionals and an experienced caregiver about the blessings and challenges of caregiving.  \n  \nSPEAKER PANEL: \n  \nMelissa Brandes\, MD\, is a Doctor of Internal Medicine caring for patients age 18-100+. The scope of her practice includes caring for patients in nursing home settings\, providing home visits to homebound patients\, and providing end-of-life care. She has been in practice for over 25 years and is currently in private practice in South Burlington with Green Mountain Internal Medicine. \n  \nKaren Cote\, MSW\, is a Social Worker and a certified end of life doula\, and a very active member of our Temple Sinai’s congregation. She is employed with The Burlington Housing Authority\, working with residents in need of caregiving. Karen has been working in this field for 37 years. She has extensive experience in caregiving in her personal life as well. Karen has spent many years working with the Chevra Kaddisha. Karen recently became the recipient of the Vermont Rays of Kindness Honor! \n  \nMarjie Kaye Sheppard is a native Vermonter\, retired massage therapist and long time member of Temple Sinai and Sisterhood. Together with her sister\, Laurie\, Marjie has cared for their mother\, Joan\, in a variety of settings since Joan suffered a stroke in July of 2020. Their journey together has been a series of roller coaster rides. Marjie is not a fan of roller coasters\, literally or figuratively. \n  \nAlan Rubel\, Author\, is a past Barre City Alderman\, Barre Town School Board Member\, past President of Beth Jacob synagogue and past Board Member of Central VT Health and Hospice\, among many other active community memberships. He is the author of numerous books\, including his current co-editorship of the award winning book\, The Greatest Burden The Greatest Blessing: Caregiving Stories of Hope\, Humility and Love. Alan will discuss his book at this event\, selling and signing copies at the end of the evening.
