See this article for more information. \nJoin hosts Adele\, Lani and Mitch and a friendly friendly group of people that gathers periodically on Zoom or in person to enjoy the folkdances of Israel! \nWe mostly dance around a circle so no partner is required. We learn from the Talmud that dreams are 1/60th of prophecy and that a dream that has not been interpreted is like a letter that has not been read. Together we will discover the wealth of Jewish teachings on dreams\, dream interpretation\, and dream rituals.  \nAs part of the class each person will keep a personal dream journal (Sefer Chalomot). We are meeting in the month of Kislev\, which according to kabbalah is a time to turn within and pay attention to the deeper messages of our dreams. Kislev is also when we read from the Torah about Jacob’s Ladder and Josef the dreamer and dream interpreter. \nNo prior knowledge of Judaism is required nor do you need to be Jewish. SUMMARY:When Critique Becomes Hateful: Defining Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism - Derek Penslar\, Harvard University
DESCRIPTION:What rights do people have to criticize their country? Other countries? When do those criticisms become hateful? And when they become hateful\, how should they be combatted? This talk discusses how these questions relate to contemporary anti-Zionism and antisemitism. His discussion draws upon three relevant documents: The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s “Working Definition of Antisemitism” (2016); The Nexus Document: Understanding Antisemitism and its Nexus with Israel and Zionism (2021); and The Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (2021). \nDerek Penslar is the William Lee Frost Professor of Jewish History at Harvard University and Director of Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies. He is also a resident faculty member at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) and is affiliated with Harvard’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies. \nPenslar takes a comparative and transnational approach to modern Jewish history\, which he studies within the contexts of modern nationalism\, capitalism\, and colonialism. His books have engaged with a variety of approaches and methods\, including the history of science and technology (Zionism and Technocracy: The Engineering of the Jewish Settlement in Palestine 1870-1918\, 1991)\, economic history (Shylock’s Children: Economics and Jewish Identity in Modern Europe\, 2001)\, military history (Jews and the Military: A History\, 2013)\, biography (Theodor Herzl: The Charismatic Leader\, 2020)\, and the history of emotions (Zionism: An Emotional State\, 2023). In two co-edited volumes\, Penslar has brought Jewish studies into conversation with postcolonial studies (Orientalism and the Jews\, 2005) and Unacknowledged Kinships: Postcolonial Theory and the Historiography of Zionism\, 2023). His current interests lie in international history\, and he is writing a book about worldwide reactions to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. \nSponsored by the Raul Hilberg Distinguished Professorship of Holocaust Studies at the University of Vermont

SUMMARY:Shabbat Morning Services
DESCRIPTION:Our Shabbat morning service is traditional egalitarian with new melodies and kavannot (spiritual intentions) introduced and incorporated. \nFollowing services\, we often host a Kiddush – a lunch donated by synagogue members or b mitzvah families\, where all are welcome. Saturday morning services begin at 9:15 AM. \nOur morning service will feature our Shabbat Village: \n– An intentional place for families\, children and anyone to schmooze and be together during the time of Shabbat services \n– No pressure to join in the service (though of course all are welcome to attend as much or little as works for you) \n– Families may access the playground\, gardens and trails \n– Everyone is invited to the kiddush (meal) afterward (when applicable) \n– Children’s books and a video feed of services will be provided. Currently\, children will need to be accompanied by their adult(s). Parents may choose to team up – it takes a village! \nTorah Study typically takes place at 8:30 am before services.
