SUMMARY:Author Talk and Book Signing: Beyond the Politics of Contempt
DESCRIPTION:Local Vermont author Dr. Beth Malow will discuss her award-winning book followed by a Q and A. Learn how you can transform the politics of contempt into the politics of hope in your relationships as well as make a difference in your community and nation. Books will be available for purchase and signing following the talk. \nAward-winning book\, Beyond the Politics of Contempt: Practical Steps to Build Positive Relationships in Divided Times  offers a hopeful roadmap for Americans trying to make sense of this dark moment and striving to find a better way. The goal is to transform the politics of fear and hatred into the politics of hope. The authors offer personal stories and practical tips to better our lives\, our relationships\, and our country — including how to stand up for what you believe without disparaging others. \nThe book received a Literary Titan Award for “exceptional quality in writing\, research\, and presentation” and transforming “complex topics into accessible and compelling narratives that captivate readers and enhance our understanding.” \nBeth Malow lives in Hartford\, Vermont\, and is an active member of her Jewish community.  She’s a neurologist and science communicator focused on public health\, sleep\, and climate change. A TEDx speaker who moderates workshops and debates for Braver Angels\, she has appeared on NPR 1A\, PBS Newshour\, and other news outlets. \n  \n\n\nAlso on this date\, please join us in the OZ Social Hall for\nDepolarizing Ourselves – A facilitated workshop from Braver Angels\nhappening from 3pm-5pm.

SUMMARY:Depolarizing Ourselves – A facilitated workshop from Braver Angels
DESCRIPTION:Depolarizing Ourselves especially for our Jewish community \nA facilitated workshop from Braver Angels (braverangels.org) \nThis workshop is designed to help you lessen the effects of polarization when you encounter them in your political conversations.  By “polarization\,” we don’t mean healthy disagreements over issues or philosophy. We are talking about how we regard and talk about large groups of ordinary people on the other side of our own politics as if they were enemies. This 90 minute group session is customized for our Jewish community.  It is led by a volunteer Braver Angels Facilitator. \nOur goals are that participants will: \n\nBe more aware of their own “inner polarizer”.\nInteract without demonizing\, dismissing or stereotyping large swaths of the population.\n\n  \nPlease Register Here \n  \n\n\nAlso on this date\, please join us in the OZ Social Hall for\nAuthor Talk and Book Signing: Beyond the Politics of Contempt\nhappening from 1pm-2:30pm.

SUMMARY:Kulanu presents Navigating Israel Speaker Series – Defining Zionism: From Herzl to Mamdani
DESCRIPTION:The Kulanu Antisemitism Workgroup of Ohavi Zedek Synagogue presents:\nNavigating Israel: A Social Justice Speaker Series. \nDefining Zionism: From Herzl to Mamdani\nProfessor Adi Livny\, Ph.D.\n \nAdi Livny is a historian of knowledge institutions\, focusing on Israel and Mandatory Palestine. Her book manuscript\, Settlers\, Natives\, and Empire: The Making of the Hebrew University\, offers a revised origin story for the Hebrew University\, established in 1925 in British Mandatory Palestine\, tracing its transformation from a Jewish into an Israeli university. Drawing on materials in German\, Hebrew\, and Arabic from over ten archives in Israel and the United Kingdom\, the book examines how the Hebrew University was shaped during its formative years as a result of the dynamic interactions between its predominantly Jewish-European faculty\, the land’s Arab-Palestinian majority\, and the British Empire. \nLivny’s new project\, A Divide Apart: The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict on American Campuses\, examines how American academic spaces emerged as an external front in the Israel-Palestine conflict as early as the 1950s. Her research has been featured in peer-reviewed journals such as Studies in Contemporary Jewry and Armed Forces & Society\, as well as in public platforms like Haaretz. \nLivny earned her Ph.D. in Jewish History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem\, where she was a fellow at the Mandel School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities. She currently teaches courses on Zionism\, Contemporary Israel and the Israel-Palestine Conflict. \n— Doors 5:00pm\, Program 5:30-7:00pm.
