DESCRIPTION:Join Zac Ispa-Landa who will lead three summer mindfulness sessions. \nThis is a multi-level class\, perfect for beginners and seasoned practitioners. This program is secular in nature and open to all. \nNo special clothing or gear needed. Chairs are available\, and you’re welcome to bring a meditation cushion or whatever helps you feel comfortable. We will have some cushions as well. \nAttend just one or all classes; participants are invited to OZ’s kiddush lunch after the class. \n  \nREGISTER HERE \n\nAbout our leader:\nZac is a mindfulness teacher\, father\, beekeeper\, and Senior Lecturer at the University of Vermont. At UVM\, he teaches courses on ecology\, environmental justice\, mindfulness\, and honey bee culture. He teaches mindfulness with the Burlington Dharma Collective\, Barre Center for Buddhist Studies\, Cambridge Insight Meditation Center\, Inward Bound Mindfulness\, and elsewhere. He began meditating twenty years ago\, inspired by a vision of personal and collective liberation\, and has spent thousands of hours in meditation and hundreds of days on retreat since. Zac celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at Congregation Beth Shalom in Missouri and now\, many years later\, lives in Winooski with his partner\, son\, and tens of thousands of honeybees. SUMMARY:Unveiling of the Copper Ark
DESCRIPTION:Join our public unveiling of the magnificent century-old Copper Ark that once graced the sanctuary of the former Red Brick Synagogue on Archibald Street. It now joins the famous “Lost Mural” under one roof for the first time ever. All are welcome! \nIn addition to the opportunity to view the ark\, a brief program will include a taped presentation made for us especially for this occasion by Dr. Samuel Gruber\, the world’s foremost expert on historic Jewish art and monuments. Much as he did in heralding the preservation of the Lost Mural\, Dr. Gruber will explain why the Copper Ark is ‘one-of-a-kind’. In addition\, we will discuss Morris Wool\, the immigrant tinsmith who created the ark\, and talk about the almost year-long process of rescuing the ark. Light refreshments in the spirt of Little Jerusalem\, the Jewish neighborhood into which Lithuanian immigrants settled in the late 1800s\, will be served\, and our vision for the future of The Copper Ark will be revealed. \nThis event is sponsored by The Copper Ark Project. This class will provide resources including sheet music as well as audio recordings\, meeting the needs and learning styles of all learners. Ability to read Biblical Hebrew is a prerequisite\, as well as some experience and familiarity with the cantillation (trop) symbols\, (i.e. from chanting Torah and/or Haftarah). SUMMARY:ChaiLights - One Jewish Thing Disucssion
DESCRIPTION:This weeks program is a discussion called “One Jewish Thing.” \nJudaism can appear to be an overwhelming system of a million things to know and do. This learning program will help make it be just one thing at a time. Come explore your “One Jewish Thing” that is most important for the joy of Judaism. Join others in casual group and chevruta (partner) discussions lead by OZ Hebrew School parent Lisa Glass-Kornstein\, and we’ll all take a step on our Jewish journey. Like all ChaiLights programs\, no level of jewish knowledge or background is required. Bagels & coffee will be served at 9:15 am and the discussion will take place at 9:30 am to 10:30 am – in the small Sanctuary. \nProgram Background: \nThis fall\, OZ will be serving bagels\, coffee and tea\, with fun/social group experiences for adults! \nBeginning September 11th\, ten weekly ChaiLights gatherings will give you a chance to learn a little\, taste a little\, share a little\, maybe even schvitz (sweat!) a little while connecting with others. \nEach gathering will start off with food and open conversation\, followed by a unique experience that will engage and inspire\, let us create and improve the world. This project’s vibe is fun\, social and low-pressure\, with activities lead by community volunteers.
