DESCRIPTION:The best way to end Shabbat is with Dan Nichols!\nYou won’t want to miss this concert!! \nWho’s Dan?? \nDan is a product of the URJ Jewish camping movement. He has toured Jewish summer camps across North America for the last 25 years. A classically trained singer\, Dan received his Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance at the University of North Carolina. In 1995\, realizing the potential of music to make powerful connections with Jewish youth\, Dan established the Jewish rock band Eighteen. Since that time\, Dan and Eighteen have released 13 albums. Songs like\, L’takein\, B’tzelem Elohim\, Kehillah Kedoshah\, Chazak\, Sweet As Honey\, and Asher Yatzar have become Jewish communal anthems throughout North America. \nDan has toured over 190 days for the last 20+ years\, where he often serves as artist-in-residence and teacher for congregations and camp communities. He has served on the faculty of Hava Nashira since 2001. In 2009 he co-founded Shulhouse Rock\, a songleading workshop for Jewish high-school students. He has performed live in Israel at the historic fortress of Masada and in the studio for the groundbreaking XM Radio presentation of Radio Hanukkah. \nDan created the Road to Eden Deep South Sukkot Tour to bring the message of Sukkot to communities in the southern United States\, where he and his band played 11 shows in 10 days. Their experiences are captured in the documentary film\, Road to Eden. In addition to these highlights\, Dan has been featured at conferences and conventions of nearly every major Jewish movement\, including the URJ Biennial\, NFTY Convention\, BBYO International\, Limmud and the Wexner Heritage Program. \nGET TICKETS

DESCRIPTION:THE ART OF CAREGIVING \n\nCaregiving often calls us to lean into love we didn’t know possible. Tia Walker\, Author \n\nTHE PROGRAM: \n  \nAre you a caregiver for someone you love? A partner\, family member\, friend?  \n  \nDo you anticipate being called to a caregiving role sometime in the near or distant future?  \n  \nTogether we will learn from a panel of three health professionals and an experienced caregiver about the blessings and challenges of caregiving.  \n  \nSPEAKER PANEL: \n  \nMelissa Brandes\, MD\, is a Doctor of Internal Medicine caring for patients age 18-100+. The scope of her practice includes caring for patients in nursing home settings\, providing home visits to homebound patients\, and providing end-of-life care. She has been in practice for over 25 years and is currently in private practice in South Burlington with Green Mountain Internal Medicine. \n  \nKaren Cote\, MSW\, is a Social Worker and a certified end of life doula\, and a very active member of our Temple Sinai’s congregation. She is employed with The Burlington Housing Authority\, working with residents in need of caregiving. Karen has been working in this field for 37 years. She has extensive experience in caregiving in her personal life as well. Karen has spent many years working with the Chevra Kaddisha. Karen recently became the recipient of the Vermont Rays of Kindness Honor! \n  \nMarjie Kaye Sheppard is a native Vermonter\, retired massage therapist and long time member of Temple Sinai and Sisterhood. Together with her sister\, Laurie\, Marjie has cared for their mother\, Joan\, in a variety of settings since Joan suffered a stroke in July of 2020. Their journey together has been a series of roller coaster rides. Marjie is not a fan of roller coasters\, literally or figuratively. \n  \nAlan Rubel\, Author\, is a past Barre City Alderman\, Barre Town School Board Member\, past President of Beth Jacob synagogue and past Board Member of Central VT Health and Hospice\, among many other active community memberships. He is the author of numerous books\, including his current co-editorship of the award winning book\, The Greatest Burden The Greatest Blessing: Caregiving Stories of Hope\, Humility and Love. Alan will discuss his book at this event\, selling and signing copies at the end of the evening.
