Reverse Tashlich Waterway Clean Up
October 2, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join our inagural Burlington Reverse Tashlich, where we will be cleaning the Pine Street Barge Canal.
What’s a Reverse Tashlich?! Well, in the traditional Tashlich, we symbolicaly ‘cast our sins’ – throwing crumbs of bread into a body of water as part of the Rosh Hashanah riturals. In a ‘Reverse Tashlich’, we join 240+ other communities in a new traditional of cleaning up a body of water. Read more about the movement here.
Please arrive a little beforehand and park in the parking lot of Dealer.com (1 Howard St, Burlington VT, 05401) and walk over the land across the street. We will start with a short ritual about caring for the earth right at 2:00 near the canal and then walk to the area of the site to start cleaning.
Wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves to protect from the possible risk of poison ivy. Bring gloves and eye protection if you have them. If not, there will be extra gloves there. The risk of exposure will be reduced as our hosts will cut a trail before we arrive. When you arrive home, carefully take off your clothes and wash them before re-wearing them. Leave your shoes out for a few days to air out.
Children ages 8 and older are welcome. Not an ideal site for younger children.
