G’maCh Caring Volunteers

avot hillel im ayn ani li

G’maCh (short for gemilut chesedim which means acts of loving-kindness) is Ohavi Zedek’s caring program. The volunteers of G’maCh support members of our community who need help during challenging (or sometimes joyful) times, whatever the need may be.

Volunteer Here!

If you need a little help or know someone else who might benefit from one or all of the services or if you want to volunteer please be in touch.

Some of the ways G’maCh can help include:

  • Home visits from members of the community
  • Delivering holiday care baskets or meals to both elders and families with young babies in our community
  • Delivering frozen meals prepared at OZ or by families in our community to member families in need (whether due to an illness, the birth of a new baby, the loss of a close loved one or just to help out)
  • Offering a ride when in need

The G’maCh Freezer: How to Use & How to Contribute:

The G’MaCh freezer, located inside the closet, outside of the kitchen, is full of nutritious vegan and vegetarian soups (and Mac ‘n cheese!). These soups focus on seasonality and nutritional content, as well as flavor!

Who can take the soups?

Anyone!  Do you know someone who is sick, grieving, too busy, or even just returned from a trip?  Are YOU any of those things? Then, grab a container! The meals are also intended to get food to those in need, before the kick off of a Meal Train.

What do I need to know?

All foods are vegan or vegetarian and clearly labeled with ingredients and known allergies.  They’re all prepared in OZ’s kosher kitchen.  The containers are microwaveable and don’t need to be returned.

To check out, take a photo of the QR code either on container label or on the flier hung on the freezer.  Find the number (12.1.3, for example) on the label and write down the date you took it on the matching spot on the spreadsheet.  That’s it!

Cooking groups meet 3 times a month in the OZ kitchen:

  • First Sunday at 9:30 am
  • Second Wednesday at 12:30 pm
  • Third Friday at 3 pm
