Kalman Slater, who is from Evanston, Illinois, grew up in an observant and creative Jewish household, participating in various lay-led egalitarian communities with prayer styles ranging from renewal to traditional. He channels this upbringing through his davvening by interspersing contemporary melodies with traditional nusach, honoring our rich tradition and elevating communal prayer. Outside of OZ, Kalman is an EMT and is studying public health and emergency medical services at UVM.
