Reverse Tashlich

October 6 @ 11:55 am - 2:00 pm

Join us for our OZ-led community waterway cleanup at Burlington’s Barge Canal.

This event is appropriate for people ages 10 and up, and will include group clean up activities facilitated by community members who have been involved in the Barge Canal area management.  Please note that much of this year’s work involves cleaning abandoned encampments in the vicinity of the Barge Canal.  Wear sturdy shoes and long pants and sleeves. Bring bug spray and work gloves if you have them, or we will provide.

Please arrive a few minutes before noon and park in the parking lot at Dealer.com at 1 Howard Street. Walk across the street to the chain link gate (it is locked) and enter the Barge Canal just to the right of the fence. Look for the registration table and come over to sign the Release of Liability form.  We will hold a group opening circle at noon.

About Reverse Tashlich:

This program is a recent add-on to the Jewish traditional Tashlich, an annual ritual in which some Jewish people throw crumbs of bread into a body of water during the Rosh Hashanah holiday.  The physical act of tossing crumbs is metaphor for the mental process of seeking to toss away bad habits and improve ourselves in the coming year.

Burlington’s ‘Reverse Tashlich’ began in 2022 when, we join 240+ other communities in this new traditional of cleaning up a body of water.
