Yom Kippur- Mincha & Ne’elah

This is also typically the service in which the Myron Samuelson Memorial Ne‘ilah Honor is given to a member of the congregation in recognition of their commitment of time and energy to Ohavi Zedek.
The 2022 | 5783 recipient is Naomi Barell, an OZ member for more than 20 years.
Having started as a teacher in our Hebrew School 24 years ago, Naomi served as OZHS Principal and is currently the synagogue’s Director of Youth Education. She is recognized both in-house and by USCJ for innovative programming. Creator and teacher in the two-year Jewish Journeys alternative ed program, now in its third cycle, Naomi also created and runs both the NADAV Teen Internship program, now in its sixth year, and the two-year-old summer day camp program. She is married to Jade Kaplan, the only female mohel (mohelet) in the State of Vermont. They live on a farm with six goats, 11 chickens and three cats. Of their four children, two are currently living in Israel.
Naomi says, “I remember spending time during High Holiday services as a child counting all the women’s hats, standing on the pews to see the shofar being blown, and the pride I had standing next to my father in services during Ne‘ilah when I was old enough to do so.”
