The Position

Reporting jointly to the Executive Director and clergy, the clergy assistant provides administrative support, including assistance with calendar scheduling and communication with community members, for our rabbi and cantor.  The Clergy assistant is also a project coordinator for religious and spiritual programs such as our B Mitzvah program, High Holidays and other.

Primary Responsibilities  

Administration

  • Support two clergy with calendaring, scheduling and related prioritization
  • Communications with community members on behalf of clergy; receive and screen calls and meeting requests
  • Help organize and maintain files
  • Coordinate administrative tasks for lifecycle and holiday events as well as for services
  • Project management and administration for weekly ritual programs, holiday and other clergy and religious and ritual projects
  • Administrative support of B Mitzvah program
  • Prioritize overlapping demands, ongoing work projects and special assignments to consistently meet deadlines
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community members and others who are in contact with the clergy on a regular basis
  • Work with sensitive information/situations and maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Assist with recordkeeping for Clergy discretionary checking account
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed in support of the front office under the direction of the Executive Director, including answering the phone and greeting visitors
  • Most work will take place Monday – Friday

A successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a secretary or administrative assistant or equivalent
  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills
  • Be proficient in MS Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
  • Professionalism and joy for working in a team environment
  • Familiarity email software like Constant Contact, databases and social media is a plus
  • Ability to work well under pressure, work independently, and as part of a team
  • A basic knowledge of Judaism is preferred (not required)

What you can expect:

  • 20 hours of work per week.
  • Anticipated pay rate of $20 to $25 / hour
