Lunch & Learn // Working to Advance Legal Protections for Animals

October 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

Website / Zoom Link : Click Here

// A Talk by Animal Law lawyer Laura Ireland

Students and faculty volunteering to paint chicken coops at VINE farm sanctuary.

Join Laura Ireland, Associate Director of the Animal Law and Policy Institute at Vermont Law and Graduate School, to learn more about the wide ranging work being done there to advance animal welfare.

The Institute — one of the leading national centers for the study of legal protections for animals — trains tomorrow’s animal advocacy leaders to advance animals’ legal status through education, scholarship, policy development, community engagement, and litigation.

Graduates have found jobs advocating for animal interests in civil matters — including animal custody disputes, wrongful death, and pet trusts — with a variety of organizations, such as the Humane Society of the United States; the PETA Foundation; the ASPCA; the Earth Law Center; and government agencies specializing in animal cruelty prosecutions.

Note: a vegan lunch will be served before Ms. Ireland’s talk.

Note from Lunch & Learn Coordinator Wayne Senville:

For those of you interested in Jewish values and animal welfare see “Ethical Treatment of Animals in Judaism,” by Rabbi Jill Jacobs, as well as the Center for Jewish Food Ethics’ “The Jewish Value of Tza’ar Ba’alei Chayim” and their short YouTube video, Shalom Begins on Your Plate, advocating a plant-based diet.
