Reverse Tashlich Waterway Cleanup

September 28, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for our 4th OZ-led community waterway cleanup at Burlington’s Barge Canal.

About Reverse Tashlich:

This program is a recent add-on to the Jewish traditional Tashlich, an annual ritual in which some Jewish people throw crumbs of bread into a body of water during the Rosh Hashanah holiday. The physical act of tossing crumbs is metaphor for the mental process of seeking to toss away bad habits and improve ourselves in the coming year.

Burlington’s ‘Reverse Tashlich’ began in 2022 when, we join 240+ other communities in this new traditional of cleaning up a body of water.

Reverse Tashlich is about more than just cleaning up trash—it’s about reclaiming our connection as Jews, to the natural world, to each other, and to our shared responsibility to protect the planet.

This event is appropriate for people ages 10 and up, and will include group clean up activities facilitated by community members who have been involved in the Barge Canal area management. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants and sleeves. Bring bug spray and work gloves if you have them, or we will provide them.

Please arrive a few minutes before one o’clock and park in the parking lot at Dealer.com at 1 Howard Street. Walk across the street to the Barge Canal, look for the registration table and come over to sign the Release of Liability form. We will hold a group opening circle at 1 PM.
